This week, we have been writing for an audience: Brandon Primary and Ms Kari's class.
Imagine my surprise tonight when I found 43 comments waiting for us. Thanks so much! Although I am not in class tomorrow, don't forget to reply to your comments and build friendships around the world! Over the holidays, I received great news from our classpals in South Carolina: they are going to write us letters and we will have new friends that we can share with.
Keep checking your inbox for new emails! In the meantime, here are their blogs if you would like to leave some positive comments. Don't forget we will be creating our own websites soon and we want visitors from around the globe! I am very pleased that children are now able to add their own work to the blog. It gives you a creative voice for pictures, videos, Show Mes etc.
Here are a few rules which will mean it works well: 1. Tag your work, but also include your name in the title Eg. Foodchain poster by Jack 2. Edit your work - the basic rule is: Would the writing (grammar, punctuation, openers etc) of this item be praised if I had written it in my Literacy book? Is it my best written work? 3. If people leave you a comment, please feel free to reply. If an adult or friend leaves you a question (Example: Can you spell 'somethink' differently?), make your correction as this will show you are reading and acting on their comments. If you follow these steps, you may add ideas, stories, poems, PicCollages etc. (the list is very long) from home (via the iphone/ipad/android app) or at school. I look forward to lots of great new work! An important part of blogging is how we leave comments for others.
Below are some tips on leaving good comments: 1. We use 2 stars and a wish (2 great things that we like, and 1 thing to improve on) when writing. 2. Make connections - If someone is writing about going on holiday to Spain, and you have been too, tell them! 3. Some good sentence starters could be: I really like where you used '......' because...... My favourite part was ......................... It would be even better if ...................... 4. Be specific. Don't say: 'Your spelling needs to improve'. Try: Check your spelling 'beutiful' 5. Check your comments through. Comments with i (instead of I), no capital letters or full stops suggest you haven't spent time on checking your work. Below is a video with another school's tips: |
